Have you ever stood in front of the mirror before a big meeting or event and thought, “Who let me be in charge of this?”

Like… surely someone’s going to figure out I’m winging it. That I don’t actually have it all together.

Yeah. That voice? That’s what we’re talking about today. Specifically, how hypnotherapy helps build confidence, the kind that isn’t loud or fake—but rooted, calm, and real.

This episode of Beliefs Rewired is now live! Tune in below:

What Confidence Really Is (and Isn’t)

You know what’s wild? Most people think confidence is about being naturally extroverted, always knowing what to say, or having some magical inner certainty that just poofs into existence one day. Like confidence is something you either “have” or “don’t.”

But that’s not how it works.

Confidence—real confidence—is learned. It’s practiced. And it’s built over time through tiny moments where your brain learns that it’s safe to show up, speak up, and stay steady… even when you’re nervous, even when things are uncertain, even when someone disagrees with you.

And that’s where hypnotherapy comes in.

What Lack of Confidence Really Feels Like

Before we go there—let’s talk about what confidence actually feels like when it’s not working. Because this isn’t just about job interviews or giving a TED Talk. This is about the everyday stuff:

  • Saying “yes” to something you actually want instead of defaulting to “whatever works for you.”
  • Trusting your own ideas enough to start the thing before you’ve mastered it.
  • Not replaying the conversation from yesterday on a mental loop until 2am.
  • Wearing what you want because it makes you feel good, not because you’re scanning everyone else’s imaginary opinion.

That’s what a lack of confidence does—it doesn’t just make you nervous. It makes you second-guess your instincts. Delay your decisions. Shrink down so you don’t make waves.

Why Mindset Work Isn’t Always Enough to Build Confidence

Here’s what most people get wrong: they try to think their way into confidence.

Like, “I just need to remind myself how capable I am. I just need to say more affirmations. I just need to believe in myself harder.”

Which—yes, in theory, great. But in practice? That logic doesn’t always land if the wiring underneath is saying the opposite.

It’s like trying to plant sunflowers in concrete. You can try… but they’re not going to bloom until you soften and fertilize the ground first.

That’s what hypnotherapy does. It prepares the ground.

What Hypnotherapy Actually Is

Hypnotherapy gives you access to the parts of your mind that are actually running the show—the habits, beliefs, stories, fears—that were formed long before you were old enough to question them.

And before you worry, no—I’m not waving a pocket watch or making you cluck like a chicken. Let’s set that record straight.

Hypnotherapy is simply a relaxed, focused state of awareness—where your brain becomes more open to new ideas. That’s it.

It’s kind of like the feeling you get when you’re so absorbed in a good book or movie, you forget what time it is. That’s the level of focus we’re talking about. You’re still aware. You’re still in control. You’re just more open—because the part of your brain that normally filters everything through self-doubt or skepticism quiets down a bit.

The Science of How Hypnotherapy Helps Build Confidence

Back in the early 2000s, researchers looked at how hypnotherapy could help with stage fright—specifically in musicians. One study showed that students who received hypnosis before performing had significantly less anxiety… and actually performed better than those who didn’t.

Why does that matter? Because confidence isn’t about erasing nerves. It’s about performing with them, without collapsing.

And hypnotherapy helps your system practice that—in a safe, low-pressure way. It’s like a mental dress rehearsal. You’re not just talking about feeling more confident—you’re experiencing it, in real time, in your body.

That repetition matters. Because your brain learns through experience.

How Visualization + Hypnotherapy Helps Build Confidence

You know how athletes use visualization to improve their skills? Like how Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps used to mentally rehearse every stroke of his race before even getting in the water?

That’s not just woo. That’s neuroscience. Your brain fires in similar ways whether you’re doing something physically—or vividly imagining it.

So when we rehearse confidence in hypnotherapy—whether that’s imagining yourself speaking clearly in a meeting, saying no without guilt, or actually liking how you look in the mirror—your system starts getting familiar with that feeling.

And here’s the thing: what’s familiar starts to feel safe.

And what feels safe? You’ll start doing more of.

That’s how we build confidence with hypnotherapy. Not by forcing it. But by making it safe enough to grow.

Confidence Is Built, Not Waited On (or Something You’re Born With)

Confidence isn’t a mood. It’s not something you wait to feel before you act. Confidence is something you build through experiences that remind you it’s okay to show up—even imperfectly.

And you don’t have to do that all on your own.

This is why tools like hypnotherapy and EFT are so powerful. They help you stop wrestling with yourself long enough to actually try something different.

Instead of saying, “I’ll be confident when I feel better”… you start acting in small ways as if you’re already allowed to take up space. And your system slowly learns, “Oh. That didn’t kill me. Maybe I can do that again.”

So if you’ve been wondering why it’s so hard to believe in yourself, or why all the advice hasn’t really landed—please hear this:

You don’t need more self-help. You need a way to shift what’s happening underneath the hesitation.

And that’s exactly what I help people do.

Two Small Confidence-Building Practices to Try This Week

Before we wrap up, let me leave you with two small but mighty things to try this week:

  1. Borrow belief.
Pick one area where you’ve been doubting yourself. Instead of trying to magically “be confident,” ask: What would I do right now if I trusted myself just 5% more? Not 100%. Just 5. That’s how you start building the muscle.
  2. Talk to yourself the way you talk to a friend.
You know that voice that says “Ugh, why did you say that?” or “You’re such a mess”? Try flipping it. Literally out loud, say: “You’re doing okay. You’re figuring it out.” This isn’t toxic positivity. It’s re-training your inner voice to be a little more… kind
