EFT Tapping: What It Is and How It Works
If you’ve ever wished there were a quick, no-equipment-needed way to shut down your brain’s 3am overthinking loop, calm your nervous system, and feel more like yourself again—this is it.
EFT Tapping (short for Emotional Freedom Techniques) is like emotional decluttering for your mind and body. You tap on specific acupressure points (yes, with your fingers) while focusing on the thing that’s stressing you out, and somehow—science meets magic—it works.
Here’s what’s happening: tapping sends calming signals to your brain, telling it, “Hey, we’re safe now.” Your stress response backs off, your body relaxes, and the mental static that’s been running the show starts to quiet down.
It’s used everywhere—from hypnotherapy sessions to pro sports locker rooms—to help with everything from everyday stress and public speaking jitters to deeper stuff like anxiety, phobias, old heartbreaks, and the limiting beliefs you didn’t even know you were carrying.
This isn’t about “thinking positive” or pretending everything’s fine. It’s about clearing the junk that’s been getting in the way so you can feel how you actually want to feel—calm, confident, and in control.
How does EFT Tapping Work?
EFT (aka Emotional Freedom Technique) is a simple but powerful technique that combines elements of modern psychology with ancient acupressure.
You gently tap on specific meridian points on the face and upper body while bringing attention to a specific fear, emotion, or belief—such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’m afraid to be seen,” or “I’ll fail again.”
Sounds strange? Maybe.
But it works—because you’re combining:
- A physical cue (tapping) that sends a calming signal to the brain
- A verbal acknowledgment of the emotion that’s been stuck in your system
- A safe space to rewire how your mind and body respond to fear
In short: EFT tells your brain that you’re safe—so you can finally move forward.
EFT Is For You If…
-
-
You feel overwhelmed by fear, self-doubt, or anxiety—even when, on paper, everything “should” be fine.
-
-
-
You’re trying to make a change (start a business, shift careers, launch that creative idea)… but keep finding yourself stuck at the starting line.
-
-
-
You live in the overthinking–perfectionism–procrastination loop and can’t find the exit.
-
-
-
Your emotions feel like they’re running the show, and you’d like to actually be in charge again.
-
-
-
You’ve tried to “logic” your way through fear, but your brain isn’t buying it.

What Happens in an EFT (Tapping) Session?
I always combine EFT with hypnotherapy because they work powerfully together—EFT helps calm the emotional charge in the body, while hypnotherapy reprograms the subconscious patterns that keep looping underneath. This is why it’s an intregal part of my online hypnotherapy for anxiety series and my online online hypnotherapy for confidence series, called The Belief Method.
In an EFT session, we start by getting clear on:
- What you’re feeling
- What memory or fear might be behind it
- What your subconscious might be trying to protect you from
Then we begin tapping, using simple, targeted phrases I guide you through—based on what’s coming up for you. These might sound like:
“Even though I’m scared I’ll mess this up… I’m open to the idea that I can handle it.”
“Even though I feel like I’m not ready… maybe I don’t need to be perfect to begin.”
“Even though part of me wants to hide… another part of me is ready to grow.”
EFT gives your nervous system a chance to breathe. Hypnotherapy helps you rewrite the story.
Together, they create a bridge from fear to calm… from stuck to empowered.
What EFT Can Help With
EFT for Fear of Failure (and Fear of Success)
That inner tug-of-war—the part of you afraid to fail and the part just as afraid to succeed—isn’t in your head. It’s a real, subconscious conflict that keeps you stuck. EFT tapping helps calm the fear, quiet the noise, and create the safety your mind and body need to take up space, be seen, and expand into the success you’ve been holding back from.
EFT to Increase your Confidence and Self-Worth
Whether you’re returning to the workforce, building a business, or stepping into something unfamiliar—EFT helps you release imposter syndrome and the fear that you’re not enough. By clearing the emotional roots of self-doubt, you’ll feel more grounded, capable, and confident showing up as the version of you who knows you belong.
EFT Tapping for Self-Love
Self-love isn’t something you force—it’s what naturally rises when old patterns lose their grip. With EFT tapping, you can release the emotional weight behind people-pleasing, perfectionism, and self-criticism, so it becomes easier to choose yourself—without guilt, without fear, and without needing permission.
EFT for Anxiety and Uncertainty
When life feels uncertain—whether you’re in a transition, questioning your next move, or overwhelmed by everything on your plate—EFT can help. This gentle technique calms the chaos in your mind and body, so you can release anxiety, quiet overthinking, and feel grounded in whatever comes next.
