Have you ever felt a pull towards something you couldn’t explain?
A strange familiarity with someone you’ve just met… a fear that doesn’t seem tied to anything in this life… or a pattern that keeps repeating in your life, no matter how much inner work you’ve done?
You’re not imagining it.
And you’re not alone.
These questions are often what lead someone to explore past life regression for the first time. If you’re new to past life regression, this guide offers an introduction to past life regression for beginners—what it is, how it works, and what to expect in a past life session.
I’m Pam Jones, a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Past Life Regression Specialist. If you’ve been searching for a clear and honest explanation of past life regression, you’re in the right place.
Everything below is meant to give you a beginner-friendly understanding of past life regression. If you’re just starting to explore past life regression, my goal is to help you feel informed, curious, and clear about what the process actually involves, before deciding whether it’s right for you.
What Is Past Life Regression?
Past life regression (PLR) is a gentle, guided process that uses hypnosis to help you explore subconscious memories and access impressions, emotions, or symbolic experiences that may stem from a past lifetime.
It’s not about “proving” reincarnation. It’s about tapping into your subconscious to reveal emotional patterns, inner wisdom, or unresolved stories that might be influencing you today. Past life regression helps you understand yourself better, so you can improve your current life.
Past life regression isn’t just about who you were—it’s about understanding who you are now. When we experience fears, longings, or emotional blocks that seem to come out of nowhere, there’s often a deeper story trying to surface.
A Past Life Regression Can Help You Explore:
- The origin of a fear or phobia you’ve never been able to explain
- A pattern in relationships that repeats no matter how much you work on it
- Gifts, strengths, or callings you’ve always felt drawn to but never understood why
- A deep soul connection with someone in your current life
- An unresolved experience—like a loss or betrayal—that still feels like it’s affecting you today.
Even if the past life memory isn’t “proven” to be real, it connects to something you’re still carrying in your subconscious: a fear of abandonment, difficulty letting go, people-pleasing, self-doubt, or even a repeating dynamic that shows up in your relationships or career.
These may be karmic in nature—patterns your soul is still working through. Past life regression helps you understand where certain patterns began—so you can make sense of them, shift the hold they have on you, and move forward with more clarity.
And while many people discover past lifetimes that feel surprisingly vivid and detailed, others experience their regression more symbolically—through emotion, imagery, or even subtle inner knowing.
Either way, past life regression is not about getting it perfect—there’s no right way to see, feel, or interpret what comes up. It’s simply about staying open to whatever your subconscious is ready to show you.
How Does Past Life Regression Work?
In a past life session, you’ll be guided into hypnosis and typically explore one full lifetime from start to finish. You may see:
- Childhood scenes or defining early moments
- Meaningful relationships and turning points
- Life’s purpose or unresolved conflicts
- The final moments of the past life (viewed from a peaceful, detached perspective)
- And most powerfully—the reflection that comes after
It’s deeply meaningful and healing. Most people feel calm, emotionally connected, and often surprised by how natural the process feels.
Will You Visit The “Afterlife” (The Life Between Lives)?
Yes. In the method I use, past life regression doesn’t end with the past life itself. After the lifetime ends, I gently guide you into the space beyond. This is where you may experience:
- A reunion with spirit guides or soul family
- Loving meetings or messages from loved ones who have passed
- A sense of peace, wholeness, and spiritual connection
- Insight into your soul’s growth and purpose
Clients often say this is the most moving and affirming part of the entire past life experience.
What Past Life Regression Feels Like (Especially for Beginners)
If you’re new to past life regression, you don’t need to be “good” at visualizing—or even consider yourself particularly spiritual. All you need is curiosity and an open mind.
Hypnosis isn’t mind control. It’s a natural, relaxed state—something you already experience every day. You’ve likely experienced it while daydreaming, driving on autopilot, or getting lost in a good book or movie.
That inward focus? That’s the same brain state we gently guide you into during regression.
Hypnosis also feels really good. Most clients describe it as calming, peaceful, and deeply relaxing—yet at the same time, their mind feels clear and focused. You’re not asleep. You’re aware. And you’re fully in control the entire time.
In this state, your subconscious is more open and begins to “speak”—not through logic, but through impressions, emotions, images, or a quiet sense of knowing. You might:
- See scenes from another time or place
- Feel emotions that seem strangely familiar
- Meet characters or guides who feel significant, even if you don’t know why
- Or simply feel calm, peaceful, and aware
There’s no “right” way to experience regression. Some people have vivid visuals. Others experience it more through emotion or inner dialogue.
Either way, it’s all valid—and it’s all coming from within you.
If you’re new to this, you’re not alone—most of my clients are exploring past life regression for the first time.
My Supportive Approach to Past Life Regression for Beginners
Past life regression can be powerful work, especially for beginners. That’s why I don’t rush straight into regression in the first session.
Your first session with me is a Foundational Hypnotherapy Session. This is a private Zoom session where we build the foundation for a clear, successful past life regression experience. During this session, we make sure you feel comfortable with hypnosis and guided imagery, explore what you’re hoping to understand or resolve, and strengthen your ability to follow your inner experience without forcing anything.
This will help your subconscious feel prepared and supported, so a past life regression feels natural rather than overwhelming. Some clients only need one foundational session, while others benefit from more time before moving to a past life regression session.
We’ll decide together when you’re ready to move into a past life regression session or if additional foundational work would be supportive. Many people move into past life regression in the second or third session, depending on what feels right for them.
This approach allows beginners to move forward with clarity and confidence, without pressure or a one-size-fits-all timeline.
Prefer to Explore Past Lives on Your Own First?
If you want to begin privately, I also offer a past life hypnosis audio you can use at home.
This 40-minute guided past life regression experience allows you to explore past life imagery, emotional patterns, or symbolic memories at your own pace. You can listen as many times as you’d like and return to it whenever you feel drawn. This option is best for those who prefer self-reflection or want an introduction before working together one-on-one.

How Long Is A Past Life Session & Where Are They Held?
Each past life regression session is approximately 90 minutes and held online via Zoom, so you can be in the comfort of your own home. We begin each session with a relaxed conversation to answer any questions, set intentions, and help you feel grounded before we move into hypnosis. You’ll receive an MP3 audio recording of the hypnosis portion of your past life regression session to revisit anytime, as many clients find new insights emerge each time they listen.
Real Client Past Life Story: A Forgotten Gift Reawakened
Let me share a glimpse of what this work can do.
My client “M” had always felt pulled toward healing work. Intuitives told her she’d been a healer in past lives—but in this lifetime, she struggled to fully trust that part of herself. She often second-guessed her intuition, downplayed her abilities, and stayed quiet about the deep inner knowing she felt.
During her past life regressions with me, she regressed into multiple lifetimes—each one showing her as a healer in different forms. What stood out wasn’t just the imagery. It was the emotional clarity and deep recognition.
Afterward, things began to shift.
“It just came to me. It’s as if I had downloaded a database of knowledge without my knowing while under hypnosis,” she said. “It gave me confidence and it brought back knowledge”.
This is an example what past life regression can do: Uncover gifts you didn’t know you had—and give you the courage to use them.
Frequently Asked Questions: Past Life Regression for Beginners
Can past life regression be done online?
Yes—past life regression is just as effective online! In fact, many clients find that being in the comfort of their own home helps them feel more at ease. All of my past life sessions are conducted online via Zoom, so you only need a quiet space, a reliable internet connection, and a hands-free device with good audio and video. We’ll create a calm, supportive environment—right where you are.
How can past life regression help?
Past life regression can help you in many ways and offers powerful benefits, including:
- Emotional Healing: Release unresolved emotions or patterns that seem to have no origin in this lifetime.
- Clarity and Direction: Gain insight into your current purpose, relationships, or life path.
- Inner Activation: Access hidden gifts, intuitive knowing, or untapped abilities—just like my client “M” experienced.
- Spiritual Connection: Strengthen your relationship with inner guidance, spirit allies, or subconscious wisdom.
- Self-Compassion: Understand your story more fully, leading to greater forgiveness, acceptance, and self-love.
The emotional and energetic shifts can be profound—and deeply practical in your everyday life.
What if I don’t see anything during my past life regression?
One of the most common concerns of new past life regression clients is that they won’t see anything, or that a past life won’t come to the surface during the regression. And that’s exactly why I don’t jump straight into regression in the first session. We begin with a foundational hypnotherapy session—to help your subconscious feel safe, open, and ready before exploring deeper material. This is designed to ease your mind and prepare your subconscious, so that by the time you reach your past life regression session, your system is prepared for greater insight.
Is past life regression just my imagination?
Imagination is actually how your subconscious communicates. That doesn’t make it false—it makes it powerful. During regression, what you experience may feel symbolic, dreamlike, or vividly real. Either way, your subconscious knows what it’s doing. You’ll feel what’s meaningful—and it’s often more emotionally resonant than anything you could make up.
Will past life regression relive trauma?
No. Past life regression is not a re-traumatizing process. You’re guided gently and supported the entire time. You can speak, pause, redirect, or stop at any point. Most clients describe the experience as calming—even when difficult emotions arise. The goal isn’t to re-live pain—it’s to release it.
Do I have to believe in reincarnation to do past life regression?
You don’t need to believe in reincarnation to do a past life regression. Many people who explore past lives don’t have a fixed belief system—they’re simply curious. What’s important is that you’re open to what your subconscious might show you. The story that surfaces will have meaning because it is what your subconscious is communicating to your conscious mind, whether it feels like a real memory or a symbolic metaphor. You are making subconscious thoughts conscious, where you can use them to improve your life.
Is hypnosis and past life regression safe?
Yes. Hypnosis is a natural, deeply relaxed state—something your brain already knows how to do. You’re not asleep. You’re not unconscious. And you’re definitely not under anyone’s control. It’s more like that in-between state when you’re just waking up or getting lost in a daydream: your body is relaxed, but your mind is focused inward. During a past life regression, you remain fully aware the entire time. You’ll likely remember everything you experienced—and to support that, I also provide an MP3 audio recording of your session, so you can revisit it later. Many clients tell me they uncover even more insight when listening back. This past life process is gentle, collaborative, and safe—designed to help you feel calm, open, and supported every step of the way.
